Mental Health Support Services in the UK

There are many people around the UK accessing support services for various issues. There are many benefits to doing this; the specialist knowledge or understanding of your concern, the impartial advice and the opportunity to be listened to when you most need it. Below is a list of organisations that support people, based on different concerns. This list is not exhaustive so there are other options available.


Support in a crisis

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger of harming them self or someone else, you need to contact emergency services by calling 999. You can also contact


Samaritans

Provide emotional support for people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They allow people to talk about feelings of distress and despair and are confidential and offer non-judgmental support.

Addiction

We Are With You

Free, confidential support with alcohol, drugs or mental health at a local service or online.


Anxiety

Anxiety UK

A national charity run by people with lived experience of anxiety, aiming to support everyone affected by anxiety through information and support. This includes talking therapies and self-help groups.


Bereavement

Cruse Bereavement Care

They offer support, advice and information when someone dies. They run a helpline as well as bereavement counselling as facilitated in self-help groups across the country.


Depression

Depression UK

A National Self-Help Organisation that helps people cope with their depression.


Domestic Abuse

Refuge (for women)

Support for women experiencing domestic violence and abuse, including a helpline.


Respect (for men)

Support for men experiencing domestic violence and abuse, including a helpline.


Eating Disorders

BEAT

The UK’s leading charity supporting anyone affected by eating disorders. Runs helplines, online support as well as peer support groups across the country.


Phobias

Triumph Over Phobia UK

A UK registered charity specialising in supported self help for sufferers of phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder and other related anxiety disorders.


Support for LGBTQ+ people

Confidential support, information and referral services for the LGBT community, including online chat services.
