What is counselling?
Counselling, or therapy as it is also known, is a supportive way of helping you resolve issues in your life. It is effective for helping people with a range of concerns from bereavements to relationship issues and depression to anxiety. Attending weekly sessions with a counsellor offers you the chance to speak to someone a trained professional who is impartial about your worries and to work collaboratively to find resolutions. Person-centred counselling is based on the concept that given the right conditions (in therapy) you can find your own way of re-evaluating issues, taking action and re-finding yourself. In the UK, online counselling and telephone counselling can be provided by therapists who have training, and are effective in providing this supportive environment, whilst saving you time and money, attending sessions from home.
I discovered counselling from a background in pastoral support with university students. I was interested in the reasons we are the way we are, and why we repeat behaviours and situations that aren't helpful for us. I trained for four years as a counsellor, and have worked with carers for a number of years. I provide person centred counselling, which I love as it respects and trusts that we are individuals and that we can make our own decisions.
I support clients with issues such as Abortion, Anger, Anxiety, Bereavement, Bullying, Carers Support, Changes in Circumstances, Depression, Disability, Gender Identity, Grief, Life Transitions, Loneliness, Low Self-esteem, Miscarriage, Pregnancy & Birth, Redundancy, Sexuality, Shame, Stress, Work-related issues.
Fees and commitments
Attending counselling is a journey and change doesn't happen instantly. However, the benefits (read about these here) far outweigh the commitments you need to make. When we start counselling, we will agree a contract for our work that ensures our working relationship is respectful and collaborative.
For online counselling or telephone counselling, my fee per session is £45.00. This is a reduced fee as a posed to in person work, which benefits you as the client. You need to be able to commit to meeting weekly, and have the means to attend sessions either on the Zoom video conferencing platform, or by telephone. I only work with clients living in the UK.
